August 16: “Be An Informed Citizen”
Cabarrus County Extension and Community Association (ECA) members invite any interested adult to join them for special program “Be an Informed Citizen”, 10:00 a.m. at “new” Board of Elections Building, 369 Church Street, Concord. August 18: “Venison Cooking Demonstration”
Chef Derek St.Romain, from the Duke Health and Fitness Center will be demonstrating venison cooking at Piedmont Farmers Market, 518 Winecoff School Road, Concord, NC 28027, 8:00 a.m.-12:00 Noon. He will also be representing Backyard Bow Pro, an organization that connects landowners who have deer problems with recreational hunters who will donate deer to local food banks. August 22: “Poultry Composting Workshop”
Held at Anson County Extension Center, 501 McLaurin Street, Wadesboro, NC 28170. Topics include: composting basics; design and operation; site selection; setbacks; cost share information for composters; permit requirements; mass mortality planning; forced air; and in-vessel systems. Cabarrus County Voluntary Agricultural District Ordinance and Enhanced Agricultural District Ordinance give interested farm, horticulture and forestry land owners additional choices they can use to protect their land-owner rights. Agricultural producers may be eligible for certain federal programs by applying to be a part of an Agricultural District.
