Continuing Education Classes at DSBG (October)
BELMONT, N.C. – This October, Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden will offer special continuing education classes that feature a variety of topics including: papercrafting, horticultural walks and photography.
Upcoming classes in October include:
Garden Art & Design
Papercrafting: Decorative Ceramic Coasters, instructed by Suzanne Patz, stamp and paper artist – Sunday, Oct. 7, 1 – 3 p.m. Learn basic skills involved in paper crafting and then use your new skills to create an autumn-themed note card and a set of four ceramic coasters for yourself or as a gift. This class is $18 for Garden members and $22 for non-members, plus a $5 materials fee.
The Organic Line: Ink and Watercolor Workshop, instructed by Ellen Ward, art instructor –Saturday, Oct. 20, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Ink and watercolor are the best combination for the beginner and the seasoned artist! This class uses the Organic Line Method of drawing instruction, emphasizing a quick start and expressive observation. Ellen Ward’s Organic Line Method of instruction emphasizes a quick start for beginners, instills confidence with materials, and allows for the development of a fluid method for individual expression. A list of supplies will be sent with registration confirmation. Bring a snack or bag lunch. This class is $60 for Garden members and $80 for non-members.
Horticulture
Horticultural Highlight Walks, led by Garden staff – Saturday, Oct. 6 and 20, 10 a.m. Join our professional horticulture staff as they take you on a custom tour of the Garden. Guides will highlight new developments and installations in the Garden, note favorite plants and share behind-the-scenes details. Each walk will be a unique experience. Topics and guides will be announced the week before on the Garden’s Facebook page at Facebook.com/DanielStoweBotanicalGarden. These walks are free with Garden admission.
Photography
Intuitive Photography I, instructed by Katherine Leonard, KL Creative – Saturday, Oct. 13, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Come with an open mind and learn how to view the pictures you want to capture with your camera. This half-day workshop is open to all photography levels. It focuses on learning how to create more meaningful and expressive pictures by using a variety of proven techniques and field assignments. Participants will shoot, edit and print during this session. This class is $50 for Garden members and $60 for non-members, with a $15 materials fee.
